Bath Rugby return to The Rec for Round 8 Festive Fixture

Bath Rugby return home to The Rec as the Blue, Black and White take on Northampton Saints in front of a sold-out crowd.

Round 8 will see a return for Ollie Lawrence amidst 10 changes made to the starting line-up from last week’s outing to Kingston Park.

Beno Obano, Tom Dunn and Thomas du Toit are named as this weekend’s starting front row.

Quinn Roux comes into the tight five, with Ross Molony retaining his starting jersey from last week.

Josh Bayliss and Miles Reid remain in the back row, bringing Sam Underhill into the fold to start on the openside. This will be Reid’s 100th PREM Rugby appearance.

Ben Spencer, who also makes his 100th PREM Rugby appearance in a Bath shirt, rekindles his partnership with Finn Russell at half-back.

Max Ojomoh moves across to inside centre, seeing Ollie Lawrence returning to the jersey in the 13 channel.

Henry Arundell and Joe Cokanasiga start on the wings and Tom de Glanville completes the starting XV at full back.

On the bench, last week’s all-try scoring front row of Dan Frost, Francois van Wyk and Archie Griffin look to provide their impact.

Ted Hill and Guy Pepper complete the five forward replacements in a return for Pepper after a spell on the sidelines.

Tom Carr-Smith, Santi Carreras and Chris Harris are named as this weekend’s replacement backs completing the matchday 23.

The game kicks off at 17:30 on Saturday 27 December in the second of the Gallagher PREM’s Festive Fixtures.

Loan watch: Match action for three loanees

Jasper Spandler, George Timmins and Henry Bartlett all saw match action over the weekend.

Remaining with Nottingham Rugby for their fixture on the road against Coventry, George Timmins started for the RFU Championship side.

The back row got over the white wash in the 11-try thriller seeing Nottingham take away two losing bonus points.

Elsewhere on loan, Jasper Spandler lined up on the bench for Worcester Warriors, taking to the pitch for a good 35 minute spell in the second half against Bedford Blues.

In the National League, Henry Bartlett featured again for Rams in their defeat to Dings Crusaders. The winger was able to get over the try line in the second half but there was too much left for the Rams to achieve in order to claim victory.

The RFU Championship resumes this weekend, with the National League taking a three-week festive break.

Away Fan Zone Trial at the Kingsholm Stadium

The first Bath away zone trial will be in Round 10 where Gloucester host Bath Rugby at the Kingsholm Stadium.

Join the hundreds of travelling supporters set to fill a ‘Bath away zone’ with a passionate cluster of Blue, Black & White cheering on our side in the next south west derby.

Please note, you will need to create a new account to purchase tickets. Your existing Bath Rugby eTicketing account will not work on this platform. Tickets will be sent through the Kingsholm Stadium app which can be downloaded here.

Tickets for the away zone must be purchased before Friday 9 January. Remaining seats in the away zone will be released for general sale.

Bath Rugby Supporters Club

The end of the calendar year is always a time to look back on everything achieved in the previous 12 months. And what a 12 months it has been. I have been a Bath fan for longer than I care to admit, but I am young enough not to have experienced the highs of the 80s and 90s.

The only silverware won during my time supporting Bath was the 07/08 Challenge Cup win, and that was at the start of my time as a season ticket holder. It has been a long wait since then, and sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think of the three cups that we can now call our own.

It has been a promising start to the season, and this festive fixture against a very impressive Northampton Saints side is critical in keeping up the momentum. Let’s hope we have the late Christmas present we all wish for today: another win.

The BRSC calendar of events is well underway, and we are delighted our evening for members to meet new players went so well. We welcomed a group of new players to the clubhouse, including Santi Carreras and Dan Frost, and spent a few hours chatting and getting to know the new men wearing blue, black and white.

In the New Year, look out for our charity quiz. We hope that the quiz will be swiftly followed by our always popular ‘Ask the Ref’ event with Head of Match Officials at EPCR, Tony Spreadbury. Something tells me that we may have quite a few questions for Spreaders, this year…

Our events are exclusively for our members: almost all are at no cost to you if you have signed up to BRSC. And lots of you have just done that – we have moved to over 1500 members already this season. From all the BRSC committee, many thanks for your support this year… and a very Merry Christmas to you!
