After three successive wins, Bath suffered their first loss since the restart with Wasps returning home with four points after a hugely tight affair between 4th and 5th place in the Gallagher Premiership. It could not have been a more perfect start for Stuart Hooper's men, with Ruaridh McConnochie crossing the try line in only the 2nd minute capitalising from a Wasps knock-on. It was the third try for the Bath and England International since restart, who has returned in fantastic form!
After two quick penalties from Bath's number 10 Rhys Priestland, Bath were looking dominant and leading Wasps 13-0. After a period of pressure, it was Jacob Umaga who scored Wasps first try of the day after some brilliant work from their number 9 Dan Robson. Jacob then converted the try and followed that by adding a further three points just before the break, resulting in both teams heading to the changing rooms level at half-time.
Rhys Priestland was awarded with the 'Performance of the Match' accolade for Bath Rugby, only missing one kick all day that unfortunately hit the post in the first half.
After Tom West (Wasps) and replacement Jack Walker (Bath) scoring tries for each side in the second half, a penalty try four minutes from the final whistle was the difference between the two sides.
For a neutral fan, today was a brilliant spectacle for the game with both sides producing some awesome rugby. However, the lads will be bitterly disappointed with this result and their first loss since the restart. It's Harlequins next for the Blue, Black and White which will be played on Saturday at Twickenham Stoop.
See you next Saturday!
