It was always going to be a huge challenge to secure a result from the European and Premiership Champions, but Exeter showcased exactly why they are the dominant force in European Rugby on a difficult afternoon for Stuart Hooper's men.
It was a special day for local lad Henry Thomas, who earned his 100th appearance in the Blue, Black and White. Whilst Henry will be hugely disappointed with the result, that is a fantastic achievement for the former Bath RFC mini and junior player.
It was also a day to remember for back row Josh Bayliss who respectively earned his 50th appearance for Bath Rugby. Another player who has benefited from our Academy.
Bath was boosted by the news that Tom Dunn, Ben Obano and Charlie Ewels returned to the side having been away on England duty. Even with the extra firepower, the Chiefs pack remained dominant with some brilliant attacking play to secure the 40-3 victory.
A spectacular try from Tom O'Flaherty and two tries by Sam Simmonds helped Exeter lead 21-3 at half time. Exeter picked up where they left off in the second-half; with Sam Hidalgo-Clyne, Ian Whitten and a penalty try completing a well-earned W.
Director of Rugby Stuart Hooper and Head Coach Neal Hatley will demand a response from the lads this week at the training ground ahead of a crucial trip to Worcester to secure a first win of the season!
