It was a heart-breaking night at the Rec, but one full of heart and some thrilling rugby from the Blue, Black and White.
In an agonising finish to the game, Bath Rugby fell short in a truly nail biting afternoon at the Rec as the home side were beaten 23-19 by Scarlets in the Heineken Champions Cup.
After an end-to-end half of attacking rugby, Bath Rugby ended the first half leading 14-10 after three penalties from Ben Spencer and a try from Ruaridh McConnochie.
After the break Bath continued to pile on the pressure by keeping possession and gaining a lot of territory, but they were unable to make that pressure count until the 53rd minute when Will Stuart crashed over to score in his first appearance of the season for the Blue, Black and White since returning from England duties.
Although Bath Rugby lost Taulupe Faletau early in the game to a HIA, his replacement Zach Mercer was on fire. Mercer had an outstanding game finishing with a match high of 123m in attack and the most carries of anyone on the pitch. We wish Taulupe Faletau a speedy recovery and hope to see him fit and raring to go next weekend.
Despite the result not going our way, it was amazing to finally see 2,000 of our supporters back at the Rec!
We hopefully look forward to welcoming fans to our next home fixture, as we welcome London Irish to the Rec for some festive fun on Boxing Day. We hope to see you there 🎅🎄.
Stuart Hooper will be hoping his side can continue the trend of winning on the road, having tasted success at Worcester Warriors last Saturday in the league, when they fly to La Rochelle next weekend for a first ever meeting between the sides to reignite our European campaign.
